Amargosa Borax Works
A smaller version of the Harmony Borax Works in Death Valley, the Amargosa Borax Works kept the borax production going year-round. The summer months were just too hot to process the borax at the Harmony Works so operations were moved to this site for several months a year. Today, there isn't much left of these borax works except pieces of the mill foundation and a sign marking the spot (pictured at left). S.R. 127 runs right through what was the mill complex and remnants are on both sides of the highway. Look for the sign south of the town of Shoshone right alongside S.R. 127. |
