In the remote desert of northern Death Valley is one of the Park's most unique and mysterious geological wonders - the moving rock of Racetrack. Since their discovery in 1915, the mystery of these "racing rocks" have been studied by geologists and scientists alike. The rocks on this dry lakebed or playa [glossary] are moving - but how? They leave obvious tracks in the dried mud showing their direction of travel but no evidence as to how they travel. |
